Jones Bros champions Ruthin’s sports volunteers with sponsorship 23rd Jan 2024

Two Ruthin sports clubs have kicked off the season on the right foot thanks to the support of Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK.

The firm has sponsored the town’s rugby and football teams to support their continued dedication to local young people, with a handful of its employees having children involved.

The Ruthin-based civil engineering contractor has provided new fit-for-purpose training wear for the 50 volunteer rugby coaches, who oversee its 18 male and female squads, aged from under-7s to adult groups.

Some of Ruthin Rugby Club’s coaches at their training grounds in Pavilion Cae Ddol, who have received new training clothes thanks to the firm.

Jones Bros environment manager Sam Higgitt has enjoyed a long affiliation with the club, joining when he was just five years old, and is now involved coaching his children’s teams at Cae Ddol every Sunday morning.

Sam said: “Providing warm weather clothes for the winter and shorts and t-shirts for the summer months is a huge help in showing just how valued our coaches are, while also bringing them a sense of unity.

“ Ruthin Rugby Club is a major community asset and many families of Jones Bros employees are involved, so it’s fantastic for the company to back the great work that’s being done.”

In addition, the civil engineering firm has extended its long-standing relationship with Ruthin Town FC by sponsoring the under-10s and 12s match day kits for two seasons.

Jones Bros contracts director Eryl Roberts, whose children play for both the rugby and football teams, added: “It’s brilliant to live in a place where local organisations are keen to get behind community groups and initiatives.

“This sponsorship will be a significant help as it gives them one less thing to worry about. It’s a meaningful gesture and a thanks for all the work the volunteers do.

The firm has previously upgraded facilities at the football club , including installing floodlights at the ground and constructing a new stand comprising of 250 covered seats.

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways ,  flood and marine defence ,  waste management  and  renewable energy  around the UK.

The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
