Jones Bros displays health and safety excellence with 16th successive RoSPA gold 29th Apr 2024

A leading civil engineering company’s unwavering commitment to the highest of health and safety standards has been rewarded with a prestigious industry award.

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK was granted the order of distinction by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) after achieving 16 consecutive gold honours.

The RoSPA health and safety awards are one of the most prominent and recognised schemes in the world with almost 2,000 entries every year from 50 countries and a reach of more than seven million employees.

Winners are recognised for very low levels of error, injury, and loss, as well as impressive control of risk and highly developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture.

Casey Parry, HSE assistant at Jones Bros, said: “This annual award is extremely important to the HSE team, validating our continual dedication to health, safety, and environment standards and positive behaviours.

“For the company, it’s a mark of excellence, boosting our reputation, aiding in winning new contracts, and retaining existing ones by showcasing our pledge to high standards and positive behaviours.”

Maintaining those values on major UK-wide projects, including North Kyle Wind Farm and tidal energy scheme Morlais , Jones Bros is also continuously striving to improve HSE performance.

Casey continued: “In the past year we’ve implemented new initiatives, such as an incentive scheme, which has provided competition and rewards for our best performing site, and streamlined procedures, resulting in tangible improvements.

“We remain dedicated to continually improving our HSE processes, expanding our team resources, and investing in technology to assist with planning and implementing safe systems of work.

“We are also pursuing our 17th consecutive gold award next year. Attaining this demands significant time and effort, providing current examples of policies, processes, procedures, and risk assessments as well as ongoing learning and stringent adherence to our health and safety standards.”

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways , flood and marine defence , waste management and renewable energy around the UK.

The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
