Jones Bros backs ultra marathon challenge for charities 15th May 2019

A director at a Wales engineering consultancy taking on an ultra-marathon challenge for charity, has been supported by a leading civil engineering firm .

Kate Attwood, group director for WSP , has been sponsored by Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK to tackle HEINEKEN’s Race to The Tower event.

The 52-mile race, which sends participants through the Cotswolds and finishes at the historic Broadway Tower, takes 26 hours over two days to complete.

Kate’s team will raise funds for the Stroke Association and mental health charity Mind . More than £1,000 has already been donated in support of the challenge against a £5,000 target.

And Kate, who will be crossing the finish line in a Jones Bros branded t-shirt, says the sponsorship will make a huge difference for causes that are close to her heart.

She said: “My husband Steve had a stroke at the age of just 36 in 2017. For a fit and healthy young person, the physical and mental effects of stroke can be devastating, but we were lucky.

“Steve got excellent emergency medical treatment at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend and at the Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

“In 2018, the Stroke Association and Mind provided a lot of support to help him recover. Without them, this experience could have been very different.

“These organisations rely on charitable donations only and I’m excited to be joined by friends to do our bit and join the race to raise vital money for them.

“Being sponsored by Jones Bros is a fantastic boost for us, and I’d like to thank John Dielhof (managing director), Mike Jones (major projects manager), and the whole team for their support.”

Mike added: “When we heard about Kate’s challenge, her husband’s story, and the worthy causes behind it, we were more than happy to help.

“Walking more than 50 miles in just over 24 hours is an incredible feat for anyone, and I wish Kate and her fundraising team all the best in achieving it.”
