Jones Bros sponsorship helps women’s football team score big 9th Apr 2024
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK is cheering on a North Wales football team to help safeguard women’s sport within the region.
The Ruthin-based firm is the main shirt sponsor of Denbigh Town Ladies FC for the fourth season in a row, providing new home, away, and training kits for the adult squad.
The backing is especially significant to team captain Elen James-Owen, who joined the club as a 14-year-old, and is now a senior quantity surveyor at Jones Bros .
She said: “Having the continued encouragement and financial support from Jones Bros is invaluable to the players and our volunteers.
“I’m grateful to work for a company which is committed to helping increase young girls’ access to sport, particularly as we are the only women’s football team in the heart of the Vale of Clwyd.
“A lot has changed in the game throughout my time at Denbigh Town. When I was younger, the girls’ side folded and there wasn’t a squad I could join until I was 16.
“Nowadays, we have plenty of girls who come along, taking part in our junior girls’ section ran by Carla Rizzi and Ellen Lawson, who also play and manage the ladies side.”
Highlights across the past two years include Denbigh Town hosting a number of international matches at its Central Park home, welcoming teams from Wales, Brazil, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and Hungary, amongst others.
In 2023, the prestigious Victory Shield was also played at the venue, and various Welsh women’s youth international matches have been held.
In addition to the playing kits, Jones Bros has contributed towards Denbigh Town’s refurbishment plans for its clubhouse facilities, allowing it to continue hosting international matches.
For example, the 2026 under-19s European Championships are set to be held at Central Park, which will see young talent compete for the international title in North Wales, forming part of the Football Association of Wales ’ 150th anniversary.
Denbigh Town chairman Shon Powell said: “Our ladies’ team is a vital community asset and allows women and girls in the area to play the game that we all love.
“For any club to deliver what we see on the pitch, we require the backing of everyone, and Jones Bros has been incredible in their long-term support of our club and we can’t thank them enough once again.
“The new shirts have looked superb this season and seem to have been a lucky charm with the side finishing as runners-up in the league.”
The civil engineering contractor is no stranger to supporting local sport clubs, with the firm announcing sponsorship of junior rugby and football teams in Ruthin , where a handful of its employees have children involved.
Elen added: “Jones Bros is keen to support its staff in and outside of work, and because many of us live locally, we see first-hand how our communities are enriched while projects take place.
“For example, the former North Wales Hospital, which Jones Bros is currently developing, can be seen from the grounds where we train, and acts as a great reminder that it brings benefits to the areas it operates within.”
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.
The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways , flood and marine defence , waste management and renewable energy around the UK.
The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
