Jones Bros team hits the road as part of its Twin Piers commitment 15th Jan 2024

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK did more than simply sponsor the Arthur Bebbington Twin Piers 10k as an eight-strong team competed in the race’s return.

Back in the athletics calendar for the first time in four years, the Ruthin-headquartered firm backed the event which sees runners start at Llandudno Pier and finish at Porth Eirias in Colwyn Bay.

The challenge passed through the Penrhyn Bay coastal defence scheme works carried out by Jones Bros in 2023.

Richard Watson (39 minutes, 57 seconds), Mike Davies (47:55), Mike Jones (51:46), Cathryn Johnson (54:04), Tony Murphy (56:28), Helen Morgan (57:07), Peredur Williams (60:52), and Holly Higgins (1:08:32) represented the civil engineering contractor.

Originally setting a target of raising £500 for Hope House and Ty Gobaith , the squad has received more than £1,300 in sponsorship.

Jones Bros group legal and insurance manager Richard said: “It was fantastic to be a part of the race’s return and congratulations must go to the team of runners for completing it in such impressive time.

“To be able to support the event was wonderful, and it was even better to be able to raise a four-figure sum for such an important local cause.”

Daniel Bebbington, grandson of the late Arthur, after whom the race is named, crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 29 minutes, 47 seconds.

The victor finished 52 seconds ahead of nearest challenger Elliott Smith-Rasmussen as more than 350 competitors took part.

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways , flood and marine defence , waste management and renewable energy around the UK.

The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited more than 100 apprentices during the past three years.
