We are passionate about playing an active role in the areas in which we work and leaving a lasting legacy that benefits the communities we work within.
There are many ways in which we engage with communities – from involving local people in our projects and supporting local schools to inspire future talent to boosting local economies.
Involving local communities in project development:Wherever we work, we strive to engage with local communities to ensure they are fully informed and we’ve received numerous awards in recognition of this.
While working on a major coastal defence scheme in North Wales we won a national award recognising ‘excellent standards of consideration’ towards the environment and the local community. The project was so well received locally that a letter of thanks, signed by 300 people, was presented to the on-site Jones Bros team in recognition of their hard work and professionalism.
Supporting local business:Wherever we work across the UK we strive to provide a boost to the local economy by recruiting local labour and apprentices, as well as employing local contractors. Prior to starting projects, we hold ‘meet the buyer’ events to ensure local suppliers and contractors have the opportunity to bid for and secure contracts.
Providing career opportunities:We hold regular careers events, open days and host visits from school pupils and college students. The aim is to highlight the wide range of training and apprenticeship opportunities at Jones Bros and encourage young people to consider careers in civil engineering and construction.
In areas that we work we recruit and train local workers to ensure they are equipped with the skills to secure employment when our projects come to an end. This has been particularly successful during the construction of the Pen y Cymoedd wind farm in south Wales and the extension to the Clyde wind farm in Scotland.
Playing an active role in our local community:We aim to be as creative as possible in the ways in which we engage with our local community. A collaboration between Jones Bros and a craft centre won a top arts award. We provided Ruthin Arts Centre in north Wales with leftover materials from construction sites for a schools’ project based on traditional weaving techniques. It won the Environment category at the Arts & Business Cymru 2016 awards.
